  • Renting a car?
There are a few things to note when renting a car in Italy. 1) AMEX does not cover loss and damage in Italy but Chase Sapphire does. However, the cardholder has to be the main driver and the reservation must be booked using the Sapphire in order for the car to be covered. If you do not have this card then we highly suggest purchasing the additional insurance through the company, we found SIXT to be the best when we travel there. 2) You MUST get an International driver's Permit from AAA prior to arriving in Italy. The cost is $20 and it takes 5 minutes to get.
  • Do I need to apply for ETIAS ( Electronic visa waiver ) when traveling to Italy in 2025 ?
Yes. Starting sometime in 2025, the European Travel Information and Authorisation System (ETIAS) will require travelers from once visa-exempt countries, including United States citizens, to apply for a visa and pay a small fee. Read the full article: https://etias.com/what-is-etias The application process is aimed at taking approximately 10 minutes or less. To travel abroad make sure to have your passport valid for more than 6 months.
  • Do I need cash in Italy?
Not all the places in Italy accept AMEX, so make sure to always have another credit card and some cash with you, we recommend withdrawing money before traveling to Italy in the USA.
